About Hoover

Founded in 1967 and now the largest Birmingham suburb, Hoover boasts a population of more than 84,000 residents.

Community

Rapid growth for Hoover began in the 1980s with the opening of Interstate 459, which connected to Interstate 65 at a major interchange located around the midpoint of the city's land area. Another development that spurred growth took place in 1986 when the Riverchase Galleria opened. Located at the junction of I-459 and Route 31, it's one of the largest shopping centers in the Southeast and features both retail, hotel, and office space. This residential community offers everything most families look for in a close-in suburban location. There are top-rated schools, hospitals, culture, and community organizations. The city of Hoover is located just minutes from downtown Birmingham, the airport, and such major attractions at Oak Mountain State Park, Aldridge Gardens, and the Birmingham Zoo.

Schools and Education

Hoover's public school district has ten elementary schools, three middle schools, and two high schools. Several options for private schools are also available. Hoover public schools are ranked fourth in the state by Niche, a technology company providing rankings and reviews of K-12 schools. Recreation and Culture

Riverchase Galleria is a huge attraction not only for residents of Hoover but also for people all across the Southeast. Hoover is located close to Oak Mountain State Park, the largest state park in Alabama. Aldridge Gardens, Ross Bridge Golf and Spa Resort, and the Moss Rock Preserve are also nearby. For world-class theater and concerts, Hoover residents need go no further than the Library Theatre in the heart of town. Recent performances have featured such artists as jazz vocalist Dianne Reeves, country music icon Larry Gatlin, and solo pianist George Winston.
